If you squat down in front of a race car and notice the tips of the tires are leaning towards eachother, that’s camber!

Camber can be a large factor in car setup as it plays a big role in how much tire contacts the ground or the “contact patch.”

It’s #TechTuesday 🏎️

Let’s talk springs. Springs are an integral part of anything with four wheels. They make it so the car and the tire can accept load (like bumps or curbs) and not upset the chassis itself. That's why when you're driving down the road in your car and hit a bump, the car doesn't jump in the air! The spring accepts that energy and disperses it, lowering the load that goes into the chassis.

On race cars, we have the exact same thing, generally with just much stiffer springs. We use them to control pitch and roll as well as how the tire takes the load of the chassis. Spring changes for setup are generally considered pretty big changes, as they can have a large effect on the balance of the car.

Take a short walk through history and it’s easy to see the common denominator between all of our sports greatest. Names like Senna, Schumacher, Verstappen, Hamilton; all known for their ability to separate themselves in the wet.
